These are interesting times...

It's 3:11 AM here. I'm not sleeping yet
so I'm blogging. I just read about the suicide
of Choi Jin-Sil, plastered neatly all over
Korean and some international news. Korea is
seemingly catching up to Japan regarding
the number of suicides. Yuni, a singer,

Undoubtedly what I've found by being here
is the extremely strong feeling of the
collective, meaning you're either in or
out. Korean cultures is extremely collective
still, meaning they depend on the acceptance
of their peers. Korea is at an older stage
of social evolution than Japan. Japan is
at a stage where there's a feeling of life
being pointless, thus the highest suicide
rate. Once any society, reaches a place of
having all the creature comforts it social
disintegration begins. People live for themselves,
becoming more individualistic, even though
people in these countries, know that the
"stuff" doesn't satisfy we continue on in
a type of hamster race.

Korea is undoubtedly becoming more individualistic
and follow Japan to a point of meaninglessness
but not for awhile. In fact its Korea's
remaining traditional collective thinking
that gives it meaning, even though the
traditional thinking is about 20 years old.

Food for thought.
