So I've been back in Taiwan for about two weeks,
this is the first time I've updated my blog in quite awhile..
I LOVE being back here!!!!!!!
Since I got back to Taiwan I was reminded in a friendly way of
the rather warm temperatures here, HOT, HOT and HOT. It's good for your
skin though, the humidity that is.
How does a foreigner stay in Taiwan long term past the usual 30/60/90 day
permit? Work. For foreigners most grab some English teaching job, at least
to start with, which was the reason for my med exam yesterday.
Landing a job teaching wasnt that tough. With the help of a recruiter I locked
down a job and am starting next week! Teaching here pays fairly well, around
18 an hour for foreigners. Though its not my long term objective, it gives me time
to network, explore other job opportunities here, and enjoy the culture.
There were many reasons why I wanted to get out of the US at least for at least
a year. The primary reasons are my love of Asian culture, economic, FOOD, and yes girls (escape man jose ahem). For now I'm happy to be here as I feel it was the right step to go abroad.
Recently I've met some Taiwanese Americans who've come back to Taiwan to help
running family businesses. In many ways I feel these days things are reversing,
that people will go more and more to the east for work and opportunities.
China's growth is forcing Taiwan to fight for economic marketshare, as well as the
constant struggle for political power between china and taiwan which has existed since Taiwan was born.

Aha! I'm glad to see you reverted back to teaching for a while. I loved teaching but sometimes the kids can bring you down or enlighten your life. I'll be following your ass!i
