Update! + My new website!

The weather here is cooling off. So awesome.

Recently it was Chinese Autumn festival, aka Moon festival.
This is a big holiday here in Taiwan. That day, I had a BBQ
party with some other couchsurfers. We went to Carrefour
to get BBQ ingredients, and it felt like a subway at rush hour.
The couchsurfers place we had the BBQ at was awesome. He's a designer
and he customized his whole place. The best part is, is the roof/patio
area; go up there and you can see across half the city it seems.

Acting, job searching, and studying for an IT license
is my primary schedule for now, and lots of job applications.

I put up my new website, www.androidoncrack.com.
It's an Android blog, that has Android News, App Walkthrough Videos,
hardware reviews, and more. It's fun to "create" something.
I plan to switch hosting when I'm able. The domain name is looking great :)

I'm still hosting Couchsurfers occasionally as well. Recently hosted
a guy from Belgium, an American, and a Taiwanese person.

I recently had a chance to play a small role in Doze Niu's new movie, Love.
Love is starring, Mark Zhao, Eddie Pang, Shu Qi, Ivy (Chen Yi Han), and a few more big actors. Doze's recent hit movie, Monga, a gangster style Taiwanese movie, got him a good deal of attention. Love...I'm guessing it's a romantic comedy

Sunrise in Alishan, Kenting, Derailed Trains

Amazing, incredible. Usually these words sound trite and
overused, but these are the words that describe the experience.

Starting with a jump to Kending, I took the high-speed rail down
to the Zuoying station. I got off planning to take the bus down to
Kending, but was intercepted by a betel nut chewing Minibus driver
who "very" persuasively offerred me a ride down to the paishawan
beach area, with another guy, who I'd later find out was the boss
of an a small beachside resort area called HappyPanda. Using my broken
chinese, I talked with them on the way down, and dropped off my
luggage at The Surf Shop, a very reasonable and comfy hostel, where
I stayed a night for only 400NT. Note: I was freaking out somewhat
along the ride down, might have been the driver alternating between
talking on 2 cell phones, smoking, and chewing betel nut while flying
down the road. The other taiwanese passenger wasnt the least bit worried.
Jumping forward, I arrived at the private beach area, very clean btw,The
went for a swim, and enjoyed the late afternoon sun, and a 80NT (~$2) Corona.
Awesome. The water is turquoise blue, and very warm, perfect for a swim.
The next day I met up with my CS friend, and her friends, a couple. We went
to Kending national Park first off. Strangely enough, Taiwan paves all "hiking"
trails with stones or stairs, a bit put-offish, havent figured that out. Next
went to a beach for a bit of swimming. Somehow I bumped into a jellyfish, felt
that, and decidedly stayed closer to land after that.
Found a "fairy cave," the best cave at the park, filled w/ stalagmites.
That night, stayed at a place on the main kending Road. There's plenty
of scrumptious night market food to try. Another key element, was watching
out for the imported Thai Lady-boys, doing their thing to attract customers
for a bar. I walked around.
Took the early bus to Kaohsiung, about 8:45, then took the train to Chiayi.
Arriving in Chiayi, I was paranoid about difficulties of renting a scooter,
since police crackdowns in Kenting make it difficult to rent, however Chiayi,
renting a scooter was a breeze. For a mere 400NT/Day, got a nice newish scooter,
then blastoff to Alishan! We took Highway 18, which is pretty straightforward.
A really gorgeous ride on the scooter, it's a must, really. It takes at least
2 hours along highway 18. Passing by betel nut trees, Alishan tea plants,
and looking at the gorgeous mountain ranges.
Arriving to Alishan, we parked and checked into a hotel in the ZhongZheng
Village. The village is quiet, consisting of a few restaurants, hotels tucked
in, and the huge Alishan Railway, boasting about the Sunrise view.

After dinner, we hit the bed early to wake up for the 4:30 AM train to the Chushan Sunrise viewing point. at 4:00AM, it was still pitch black. Temeperature wasn't so cold at 15C. The train was full of to be sunrise viewers. Arriving at the viewing
point, people waited expectingly. The sunrise came at 6:00 AM, but was pretty
obscured by the clouds, but stunning nonetheless. The same train that took us to the top at 4:30 AM, was later in the day derailed by a falling tree. 5 ppl died, and 55 injured as it flipped over and landed 3M below. That was a shakeup, watching a minimum of 15 ambulances driving into the park, and a helicopter airlifting out critically injured.

Down the mountain, then to breakfast, rice porridge, mianbao (bread), and tasty
hot soymilk. A nap was necessary after breakfast, then it was off to Hiking. There's
tons of gorgeous trails inside. You could easily spend a few days there to do Justice. There was a shocking amount of mainland tourists, especially for off-season.
After hiking there, it was off to Fengchihu, a little village a bit down the mountain, home of the beautiful cedar trail, and Fengchihu historical trail. The
views were beautiful, but the large amount of stairs is taxing on energy.

SEE Alishan, its a must.
This is an experience that'll stick with you forever.

NextMedia (AnimatedNews) Tour

Today I had the pleasure of touring NextMedia Animated studios in Neihu,
and got to see each step of their lightning fast production process.

This is the world's fastest Animated news production studio,
producing a piece of animated news, that goes from conception
to Youtube or ready-for-TV in a remarkably short 3 hours!

About 300 team members work in parallel to quickly move along
information that is passed along between team members that work in tandem on
different cuts of the animation to minimize the time required.

First The news piece is chosen. Next the storyline is written and camera angles are
decided. Next is my favorite part, a team of about 3 actors, covered in sensors to capture their movements, act out the storyline. Next the characters are modeled, textured, and other background objects are added via CAD. Everything is spliced together, and edited in Adobe Premier, thats it!

I really enjoyed the experience to see what it takes to produce each animated news piece lasting only a few minutes.

Awesome!
PS.. Also picked up my WeatherGirls poster

2011, HK, Visa's, and Chinese New Year

2011 is already off to a running start.
Chinese New Year is Feb.3rd, so every shop
is selling gift packages, and you can hear the
"恭喜,恭喜“ song playing everywhere,gongxi,gongxi,
means congratulations, happy to have the new year
and leave behind the old year and its troubles.
Hong Kong is going to have a large parade and
fireworks here on the 4th, but I'll be back in TW
by then..

I'm writing this from Hong Kong, where I'm here
on a visa run, because my visa in Taiwan
was "unextendible" so this wasn't as planned as
I'd liked, but things have turned out alright.

Hong Kong is a huge well oiled, fast-paced machine.

Its definitely the New York of Asia.
I'm suprised how multicultural it is.
I see a huge population of people from India,
S.E. Asia (Thailand), and way more white people
than I expected to see.

With all the finance and banking that goes on here,
Hong Kong is home to a wide variety of people and cultures,
in contrast to Korea, Taiwan, and Japan which are more
monocultural in comparison.

Tonight I went to Temple Night market near Jordan station was
filled with tons of stalls, hocking watches, paintings,
bootleg dvds, belts, pants, and much more.

Down a perpendicular street to temple market is a host of street type food
eateries, mostly selling seafood and beer. There was a lot of Indian
men passing out fliers for their curry restaurants. Not sure why, but
I took a flier for "New Delhi Curry" and went there to eat. Food was
good.

Sure was difficult to find a bathroom!!! I wandered around until I finally
found one, way down the dark street and 3 flights of stairs up...

Earlier today, I went to the other Island I also went out to the huge Buddha statue on Lantau Island, albeit it is touristy, but its nice to get out of the urban
concrete maze of malls and skyscrapers for a bit. There's an approximately 25min
Cable car, super long, that goes from the airport area, across a body of water, over
a few mountains, and arrives at the village.

Back in Taiwan, I'm working on job leads, and have to push harder.

Whats the weather like here now?? It's cold!!!

Peace/Out
